It makes me a tiny bit sad (I hate to admit it) that our pretty little site is not on his list with Fortune448.com, but I can understand it, considering their history of being with him from minute one during RockStar:INXS. I'm willing to bet that most of us hold joint citizenship on the 448 anyway!

However, he does know about us and he appreciates our support too. We will just have to make sure he sees all the love in our hearts, especially during "JD Appreciation Week" (more info on that coming soon!)

J.D. Fortune's misfortunes

To hear J.D. Fortune tell it, it's a riches-to-rags tale that's taken him from rock star to couch-surfing loser.

Just three years ago, the Mississauga, Ont.-born singer was in the midst of a successful tour as the frontman for INXS - a job he secured after emerging as the winner on the TV reality show, Rock Star: INXS in 2005. Now he's penniless and living out of his truck in Toronto, trying to find a distributor for his solo album, Death of a Motivational Speaker.

Last week in an interview on Entertainment Tonight Canada he publicly accused the Australian band of dumping him two years ago after a show in Hong Kong. But the band has a different version of the story.

In an exclusive Canadian interview airing on Sunday on the Global newsmagazine series 16X9, INXS creative director Chris Murphy disputes Fortune's claims.

"What (Murphy) says, and he says it quite frankly, is that J.D.'s full of crap," says the show's producer, Mary Perrone.

In an interview from London, Murphy echoed a statement issued by the band, saying that INXS members are in fact in the midst of working on some new material and had been planning to call Fortune to work on it with them.

It's still not clear what really happened. But for the time being, Fortune - a.k.a. Jason Dean Bennison - is back in Mississauga, living out of his truck, where the show's producers caught up with him last week. "The truck is the place I call home right now."

It's a long way from his rock star days replacing INXS's original frontman, the late Michael Hutchence. Fortune made one album with the band, 2005's Switch, for which he co-wrote the single Pretty Vegas, and travelled the world touring as their singer.

But Fortune's brief ride to the top was bumpy from the start, he reveals on 16X9, admitting that he was doing cocaine while he was with the band because the pressure to perform was intense. "The drugs became an easy way to escape that," he said in the interview with 16X9.

Now the disgraced singer says he only smokes marijuana and drinks to relax as he tries to drum up interest in his solo project.

"I am creating the end of a chapter and the beginning of another one so that everyone can move on," he told Global.

16X9 airs Sunday March 1 at 6:30 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
