In January, I had a falling out with one of my best friends. I had nothing to do with my time but mope around and feel sorry for myself. My other best friend invited me to her house and told me she had to show me something. So I went over with my sister (arollee) and Ashley said "Watch This..."... She put in her InXs:I'm Only Looking DVD and skipped to a song called "Taste It". At this point I had only heard the popular songs like "Need You Tonight" and "What you Need." The video started with the long intro with the children spying and I could only wonder what I was in for. Four minutes later, I was picking my jaw up off the ground and thinking "This might just be what I need to get me out of this funk...."... As soon as I went home, I googled InXs and visited Launch Music to watch some of the other music videos. I also found a wonderful site called Rockband.com that was just calling me in.
I joined there and started to feed my knowledge of the band. I wanted it all, Past and Present. I had to know what InXs was all about. I fell into a deep love of this band. Of OUR Band. By the end of February, I was already head over heels in love with sharing what I had found out about the band through my screen caps. I wanted to share with everyone that I would come across. I'd show them Jon, I'd show them Michael, I'd show them JD, etc. It didn't matter to me who I was showing as long as I was supporting the band and showing my love.
I saw InXs in concert for the first time the last week of February. What an experience that was! I met fellow board members before the show, and after the show... I MET THE BAND! The Charlotte show was the first time in my life that I worked up enough courage and was bound and determined to get one of Jon's drumsticks. And get one, I did!! Meeting the band was also a huge turning point for me. None of them had to stop and sign autographs, or take pictures with us, or give us hugs! But these guys truly and deeply care for their fans. I was very happy that I had put my faith in a group that really cared for the people that cared for them. I could only thank them for helping me get to a place in my life that I hadn't seen in a long time...true happiness. For years I have battled with depression, and I was beginning to feel the way I used to. Normal again. I was lucky enough to see the band again the next night in Atlanta, thanks to a wonderful person on our board. It was just as amazing!
As my knowledge of the back history of InXs grew, I decided that I would always love the past with Michael Hutchence and I would always love the present with JD Fortune. My decision to share every aspect of this band with my fellow fans still stands. I will continue to respect and support members of the band, and share them with everyone who feels the same way.
I have become accustomed to the fact that there are 3 types of InXs fans. There are the new fans, the true fans and the Bat Shit Crazy Stalkers. The new fans are fans that have learned of InXs through JD Fortune and ROCKSTAR:INXS. They may not know of Michael or the influence he had on present day InXs. The true fans are the fans that step in to help the new fans learn. They go to the shows as much as they can to support the band, and they dont necessarily care if their seats are meet and greets or not. They just want to be there. I think its the feeling of making a difference to help this band. They might street team as much as they can by voting or talking about our band at work or with their friends. They accept the band as a whole, realizing the past is what has brought us to the InXs that is the present and the future. Then there are always the Stalkers. We all know about them, so I wont get in to that subject.
After a few altercations with members of another site, I began to look for other places that might feel the same way as I did when it came to loving InXs. I became aware that this place was starting and jumped at the chance to be able to pretty the place up. I was hoping that I would be able to make a difference here. To share what I have learned in these past short 6 months, and also continue to learn! There have been ups and downs and disagreements, but I love it here! I am not afraid to post here, nor am I afraid of what any others think of my opinions. We are free here. We dont have to worry about the things we couldnt say or do at other sites. We are here to Love, to Support, and Spread the Word of InXs. Personally, I wish that everyone felt that way, unafraid to post here.
What is it that sets us apart from other sites? I really have no idea what others think but I do feel that most people like the freedom, though they dont utilize it. I like it here because we are given a chance to love the band in however we see fit. In other words, I like the sheer eclectic vibes of BINXS love here. We have new fans, we have true fans, and we have fans that only like certain members of the band. We have everyone represented. I believe that most of us are the type of people who want to share the old InXs and the new InXs . and thats what I will continue to do.
And we all just need the same thing
Tell you what I know
We're heading in the same direction
So never let it go
~"Same Direction"-InXs
